Visitor tip
Arrive early and head directly to the ship piloting simulator on the fifth floor to avoid long waits—reviews mention 50+ person queues, and each session is typically 5 minutes. Weekday visits (like Friday) are nearly empty.
Visitor tip
The museum is specifically designed for children aged 10-14 with many hands-on exhibits focused on shipping science, but it also offers plenty of educational content for adults. Make sure to explore the interactive Beneath the Bay shipwreck exploration (2,000+ wrecks), Ocean Planet sphere, and the Container Ship replica.
Visitor tip
Take advantage of the balcony viewing areas to watch Port of Mobile operations in real time—this is a unique feature not typically found in other museums and provides authentic context for the maritime exhibits.

A good place to spend a couple of hours, particularly is you have children aged 10-14 or so. The many exhibits focused on the science of shipping are aimed at this age group.
Interesting museum to visit while in Mobile. The decoration of the container ship was very creative. Enjoyed the exhibits, however, I wish I had tried the simulator, but had to wait behind 50+ boy-scouts.
