What you should know

Visitor tip Don't miss the open artist studios on the first and second floors - these are bonus exhibits where you can meet resident artists, view their work, and learn about classes or one-on-one training opportunities they offer.
Best time Visit on a weekday morning (the museum is open Wed-Sun 11am-5pm) to have a more peaceful experience in this smaller venue and avoid the sparse weekend afternoon crowds in downtown San Rafael.
Visitor tip Take advantage of free Family Day events (like May 10) for hands-on art creation in various media, or try Sound Baths and Tai Chi sessions - these are excellent value-added experiences beyond the suggested donation entry.

What visitors say

This is a wonderful, charming museum showcasing local art. The museum is nestled in a serene location and its exterior beauty matches the landscape. You’ll find ample, free parking. There is a suggested donation at the door. I went on…
It's a small museum, occuping only the bottom floor. Photos on exhibit are mainly abstract. The gift shop items are more interesting and some reasonably priced.
very skimpy exhibits.. interesting material not displayed all that well. the best thing was the gift shop which is sadly not online! get it going MOCA.. also, the hours are skimpy.. wed-sun-11-5. San Rafael is a ghost town on weekend…
