About BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo
Standard, longtime zoo offering a selection of wild mammals, birds & other animals.
💬 What Parents Say
- Plan for 2 hours and wear comfortable shoes - the zoo is laid out like a forest with long walking distances between exhibits. Pace yourself accordingly to avoid fatigue.
- Visit Wednesday afternoons between 2:00pm-4:00pm for discounted admission ($3.00 + tax), and arrive by 4:00pm since last entry closes at that time and grounds close at 5:00pm.
- Bring quarters to purchase fish food (25 cents) at the pond for an interactive feeding experience - a unique hands-on activity that visitors highlight as memorable.
- Note that some exhibits may be closed seasonally (winter months may see the train ride, playground, and café closed) and popular animals like giraffes may not always be on display - call ahead during off-season visits.
- For young children ages 3-5, consider enrolling in the 'Zoo & Me Morning' program (9:30am-11:00am) for an age-appropriate educational experience, or explore Zoo Camps offered seasonally.
