Best time Plan your visit for a weekend or call ahead to schedule an appointment if you want to explore the historic buildings (church, officers quarters, and museum). The grounds with outdoor interpretive signs are always open and free year-round, making it ideal for a quick 30-minute visit even on weekdays.
Visitor tip The locomotive has pigeons roosting above it—stay past the railings to avoid bird droppings, and note that the left side facing the railway shows wear that adds to its authenticity. The grounds feature beautiful peonies and stained glass windows of the church that photograph well from the back of the property.
