Visitor tip
If your child enjoys hands-on train play like connecting cars and laying tracks, note that most model trains are observation-only or behind glass. The hands-on antique locomotive and twice-monthly Saturday train operation events (where kids can control trains) offer the primary interactive experiences.
Visitor tip
Use the provided activity books for your self-guided tour to enhance the educational experience and keep children engaged. Staff are knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to share train history and details if you have questions.
Best time
Visit on a Saturday when train operation events are happening (twice monthly) if your kids want hands-on train control experience and the chance to earn a certificate — this significantly increases the interactive value of the visit.
